“Mundane horror for the people.”

Screenplay Subs

I’ve created a filmfreeway account for myself (check it out!) and have submitted a short screenplay to four festivals that encourage horror short screenplay submissions… I’m crossing my fingers as I dip my toes into waters I’ve been staring at for years.

The odd thing about screenplays is also its best feature: it forces me to narrow my focus strictly to action and what is said. I don’t get to narrate. I don’t get to put ideas in the reader’s head with paragraphs. It’s all boiled down to the essence of the scene. Pretty big difference from narrative prose.

Any other writers out there make the shift into writing screenplays? I tell people (who ask) that I hope someday to write a (good) book in every major genre. And here I am reaching across media, as well. Is there a better way to torpedo a career than failing to pick a genre (let alone a medium)? I’m having fun, though.
