“Mundane horror for the people.”

From the Editor’s Desk, #8

Notes from the desk of the editor are offered in the interests of personal posterity and transparency for writers and other potential editors who wish to learn from my experience.

I’ve been putting together a control sheet tracking all tasks related to the publication of Costs of Living.

So far, I’ve gotten 23 authors contracted and paid (for ~64k words), a 24th whose contract I received yesterday and who I need to pay, and two outstanding offers that will find resolution, I trust, in the next day or two. This is only the first step in a year-and-a-half publishing timeline whose main elements you’ll find below.

For anyone looking for a real peek behind the curtain, this is another effort on my part to reveal everything possible to the public about how Whisper House Press is handling this anthology.

I still need to set deadlines for myself, but in my head, the design and test printing is done by the end of 2024. That’ll give us time to run a kickstarter to boost production capacity and gather backers supporting our project and to spend 9 months marketing the book in advance of release.

If anyone has notes about what I might be missing or forgetting—and I’m sure there’s something!—let me know, please. I’d appreciate it!
