“Mundane horror for the people.”

From the Editor’s Desk, #9

Notes from the desk of the editor are offered in the interests of personal posterity and transparency for writers and other potential editors who wish to learn from my experience.

The call for subs on Whisper House Press’s first collection of stories, Costs of Living is closed. My email to thirty-five authors just went out. Its contents follow:

Howdy!

As of this moment, I’ve closed submissions for the collection.

If you’re receiving this note, you’re one of 30 authors who have already accepted a contract to participate in Whisper House Press’s Costs of Living anthology or are one of five we’re still hoping to snag via an offered contract (if this is you, note there’s a time limit on the offer, so the sooner you respond, the better!).

If the final five authors who’ve received contracts accept those agreements, we’ll sit at 35 authors and around 80k words before edits (which will not be extensive, given the high quality of your work). These submissions have come from huge variety of folkx from diverse backgrounds writing from places spread far and wide around the globe. It’s truly astounding, this thing we are building together.

I’ll get back to everyone soon with additional updates and with info about next steps (a youtube channel for the press and interviews with all willing contributors would be a good thing for a yearlong, steady release of marketing for this book, and that’s in my plan). For now, that’s all I’ve got.

If you haven’t yet checked in on the overall progress reporting re: this project on my website, please do! I’m trying to do all of this stuff in a fully transparent way, and not just for you or me, but for any potential anthologists who might stumble across the site as they consider their first anthology. I’m hoping others might benefit from my experience.

Tschüss!

Steve

If you’re curious about the progress of this collection, I’ll continue posting regular updates throughout the process. To say that I’m thrilled with where things are would be a massive understatement.

This week, I’m working with a designer to get a logo collection in order. I’ll post that info when I have more info for you.
