LIFE BEYOND THE DREAM: COLLECTED STORIES OF PHISH FANS IN RECOVERY to benefit the Divided Sky Foundation, Call for Submissions

Published on

,

Here’s the pitch Whisper House Press is offering to the Divided Sky Foundation in the coming weeks. (HOLD YOUR SUBMISSIONS UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. THIS IS A PROPOSAL ONLY AS OF SEPT. 7th 2024, and the Divided Sky Foundation is not in any way affiliated with this pitch; hopefully that changes.)

This press and its editor/publisher are soliciting submissions from authors within the Phish fan community for a volume of stories featuring tales from fans in recovery. Specifically, we want to hear from fans about their experiences attending their first shows in recovery. Preference will be given to writers clearly communicating the emotional experience of those first experiences as part of their new way of life.

New writers are welcome to submit to this collection! The editor is happy to work with you to develop your voice, but priority will be given to pieces whose development is as close to print-ready as possible.

The aim of the volume is to share our collective joy in the music and raise money for the Divided Sky Foundation.

This call is open until January 1st, 2025, with a three-week extended deadline for those fans who are members of historically marginalized communities.

Contracted contributing authors will receive a receipt for donated services rendered at the professional rate of $.06/word, the pay rate for our most recent anthology call, Dread Mondays. They’ll also receive our heartfelt gratitude. The press will not keep any proceeds beyond production costs (the editor will not be taking any pay for services, either).

HOLD YOUR SUBMISSIONS UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. THIS IS A PROPOSAL ONLY AS OF SEPT. 7th 2024.

We’ll see what the foundation says. If they say “no thanks,” we will proceed independently in as supportive a way as possible without in any way infringing on their copyrights and licenses. We have no desire to make money on this project other than to hand over to the foundation.

I’d like to give it a shot if you decide to proceed.

    1. I’ll do it one way or another; we’ll see what the foundation has to say. It’ll be a whole lot better with them involved, but my press is ready to rock.
